Routine Appointments

Appointments may be made by telephoning 0191 275 5740 or by calling at the surgery.

A routine appointment is for 10 minutes and is for one person and one problem. Please do not save up several problems for one appointment. If you know you will be longer please ask for a double slot.

All patients have the right to express a preference for a particular practitioner.  However it is not always possible to meet this preference and you will either have to wait longer to see the doctor or nurse of your choice or be prepared to see an alternative practitioner. Please discuss your preference with our admin staff when you make your appointment.

Please inform our administration team if you need an interpreter so this can be arranged. Please note that family members are not suitable as interpreters.

Urgent Appointments

If you have a problem that needs to be seen urgently, you will be asked to come to the surgery at a particular time and you will be slotted in when gaps become available. Only your urgent issue will be dealt with at this time. This may result in a wait of over 90 minutes, although all effort will be made to get you seen more quickly especially in the case of babies and the very elderly. Your patience is requested please. It is not the fault of the reception staff if undue delays occur.

Telephone Consultations

If your problem can be dealt with over the phone, you can ask for your doctor to phone you. Please give the receptionist a brief summary of your problem and how to contact you. Please be sure your telephone allows for incoming calls from a switchboard, otherwise we cannot be held responsible if we cannot contact you.


If you require a chaperone when you are being seen by a doctor or nurse, please advise the receptionist when booking the appointment as on some occasions these will not be available. The chaperone will be a qualified nurse, healthcare assistant or another doctor.



Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will not be seen and will have to arrange another appointment.

Please let us know if you cannot keep your appointment; we will then be able to offer it to another patient. If you fail to attend two or more appointments without advising us, then you may be asked to leave this practice and find another doctor.
