The patient group agreed the report of the patient survey at its meeting held on Monday 25th March 2013 and Monday 10th March 2014 the priorities of the practice for 2012/13 , 2014/15 are set out in the action plan, which can be viewed from the following link:

How to get healthcare advice and assistance when the practice is closed

Out-of-hours services are available when the practice is closed during the hours of 6pm to 8.30am Monday to Friday, and during  Bank Holidays and Weekends.

what to do when the GP practice is closed:

-if you need medical help fast but it is not an emergency call 111

-if it is a life threatening emergency call 999

Calls to 111 are free from landlines and mobiles

NHS 111 is available 24/7 every day of the year

New Appointment System

You can now book a routine appointment up to 4 weeks in advance with a doctor or nurse.

Daily urgent slots will be available if you are unwell and cannot wait for a routine appointment however, the urgents slot is for 5 minutes and ONE problem only.

Please consider if the Chemist or Walk in Centre can help you.

These slots are NOT to be used for sick notes, forms or long term health problems.

How sharing information in your medical records can help the NHS to provide better care

A modern information system has been developed, which will make increased use of information from medical records with the intention of improving health services. The system is being delivered by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) and NHS England on behalf of the NHS.

8.30am until 6.00pm – Mondays to Fridays
(there are early appointments from 7:30am also late appointments up to 9:00pm – please as reception staff).
We close for 1 hour at 12.30pm on Thursdays to allow for staff training.

Shieldfield Surgery
8.45am until 5.15pm – Monday to Friday
We close each day for 1 hour at 12.30pm.

If medical advice is needed after 6:00pm Monday to Friday and throughout the weekend please dial 111, if you have a medical emergency please dial 999.

You may obtain a repeat prescription for your medication (provided your doctor has authorised it) by telephoning us on 0191 275 5742.

Repeat prescriptions requests can be made by telephone, in writing or by calling at the surgery. This telephone will only be answered between 11.00am and 5.00pm each day.

We are unable to take orders or issue prescriptions at weekends, public holidays or out of normal surgery hours. Stamped addressed envelopes can be left with the surgery so that your new prescription can be sent to you.

You can also arrange for a chemist of your choice to collect your prescription. Your prescription will be ready after 4.00pm on the next working day following your request.
